Even this self-inflicted champion... Serena Williams.

Caught in a deep trench US Open battle against new comer Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams eventually imploded causing her to lose her bid for her 24th Grand Slam title.

Serena, appearing to cruise towards a second set win, began arguing with the chair umpire after he deducted a point from her for allegations of cheating. Of course, this caused Williams to become emotionally unraveled, which allowed Osaka to pounce on her unstable mindset.

Williams & the umpire exchanged more barbs, which led to other violations. Ultimately, Serena wasn’t able to climb out of the hole she stumbled within.
